Our Story

Who We Are

Social Spark is a mission-driven nonprofit committed to empowering communities through education, leadership development, and sustainable initiatives. Since our founding in 2015, we have worked alongside thousands of changemakers across 48 communities to design programs that meet people where they are.

We believe lasting change is built from within. That is why every program we run starts with listening — to community elders, young leaders, women business owners, and everyone in between. Their voices shape our work; our role is to provide the resources, training, and platforms that turn vision into action.

Sarah Ahmed

Founder & Executive Director

Sarah brings 15+ years of nonprofit leadership and a passion for community-led development. She founded Social Spark after a decade of grassroots organizing across three continents.

Marcus Johnson

Director of Programs

Marcus oversees program design and delivery, ensuring every workshop, training, and bootcamp meets the highest standards of impact and inclusion.

Aisha Rahman

Head of Research & Policy

Dr. Rahman leads our research arm, translating community insights into policy recommendations and evidence-based program improvements.

Daniel Okafor

Director of Partnerships

Daniel builds the partnerships that fuel our growth — from corporate sponsors to local NGOs and government agencies across the regions we serve.

Milestones Along the Way

2015

The Beginning

Spark and Light of Hope founded by a coalition of educators and community organizers running weekend workshops.

2017

First National Program

Launched our flagship leadership training, reaching 500 participants in 12 communities.

2020

Going Digital

Pivoted to online learning during the global pandemic, reaching new audiences and tripling our impact.

2023

Recognition

Awarded the National Community Impact Prize and partnered with three major foundations.
